Many of the illustrations of fungi in this program are used with permission of MykoWeb, where they originated.

MykoWeb is a set of Worldwide Web pages devoted to the science of mycology (the study of the fungi) and the hobby of mushrooming (the pursuit of mushrooms). It is a production of Michael Wood, a past president of the Mycological Society of San Francisco. MykoWeb was started in the fall of 1995 and has since garnered several Web Awards.

The biggest attraction at MykoWeb is the Fungi of the San Francisco Bay Area. Here you will find descriptions of over 250 species of fungi found in the greater San Francisco Bay Area of California, illustrated with over 950 photographs. There is another section on the Fungi of the Sierra Nevada. The Fungi of the San Francisco Bay Area is a joint project of Michael Wood and Fred Stevens. Other photographers include Michael Boom, Brother Alfred Brousseau, Tom Duffy, Bill Freedman, Terry Goyan, Ari Kornfeld, Boleslaw Kuznik, Taylor F. Lockwood, Robert Mackler, Herbert Saylor, and Mark Steinmetz.

MykoWeb also has an online reprint of California Mushrooms A Field Guide to the Boletes by Dr. Harry D. Thiers. Keys and descriptions are provided for the 85 species and varieties of California boletes known when the book was published in 1975.

MykoWeb is also home to the Mycological Society of San Francisco's web site which includes a calendar of activities and past newsletters. Another page lists all the amateur mushroom clubs in North America, with their mailing addresses, Web site and e-mail contacts. Other useful information includes a glossary of mycological terms, a bibliography of mycological references, and a page with links to over 200 other mushroom sites on the World Wide Web. A separate section is devoted to reviews of mycological related books with links to purchase them. Finally there is a Miscellanea page where you can find Mike Boom 's excellent Fungal Lust! article about morel collecting, Michael Wood 's Bibliography of the Hypogeous and Secotioid Fungi, and a sampling of Taylor F. Lockwood 's fungal art, among other mycological treats.

For those wanting faster than normal online access to the images and information on MykoWeb, a CDROM version of the website, "MykoCD" can be ordered at www.mykoweb.com.
