This page has a list of all the ectomycorrhizae (EM) descriptions in the EDD database. Clicking on the fungal species name will bring you to a description of that EM type, and clicking the magnifying glass to the right will search for similar EM types with similar descriptions, and will bring you to a search results page.
If you like, you can filter the EM descriptions listed in the catalogue by typing text that appears in one of the rows, and then clicking on the Filter button. For example, if you only want to see EM types or species that are part of the CDNAE collection, type CDE, then click Filter. If you wanted to see all of the entries that have Matchmaker: Mushrooms of the Pacific Northwest, type "MMPNW", then click Filter.
To compare two existing descriptions, go to Compare Descriptor Files from the home page. Now choose either a collection number or a species name from the drop down boxes, then click Show Descriptor. The descriptor will then load on the page (it may take a few seconds). Now, choose another species from the drop down boxes, and click Show Descriptor again. The species will then load on the page. You can do this as many times as you like to compare multiple species.
If you would like to start over and clear the table, click the Clear button. If you want to sort the table by Character Name, click the Character Name header in the table.
To conduct a synoptic search for an EM character(s) or feature(s), go to the search page by clicking on Search Database on the menu at the top of any page, or from the home page. Now fill in values for characters that you are interested in, and click the Search button at the top or bottom of the page. This will bring you to the search results page.
The search results page shows a list of potential matches based on the terms you entered in the search form. The best matches are at the top. Each result shows the collection number, name of the species, collection name if fungal species is unknown, the number of criteria that were matched, a link to the images (in Photoprofiles of Ectomycorrhizae, CDNAE, or elsewhere), a link to that fungal species sporocarp if present in Matchmaker: Mushrooms of the Pacific Northwest, the GenBank accession number if the DNA sequence from that collection as been accessioned, as well as a listing of the number of matches available.
The collection number is a unique record for each EM description in the database. Clicking the collection number will bring you to a description of that species on the descriptor display page. Clicking on the number in the Matches column will display which search terms have matched the species, and which have not. Clicking the number again will hide this information.
This page shows all data in an ectomycorrhiza descriptor file. If you would like to find species that are similar to the one you are looking at, click the Search For Similar button.
